hi, i'm kiely

alli reid photo

this week marks my one month of blogging. woohoo! it has been so much fun and i've even made some new friends. even though i have a "meet kiely" page, i wanted to give everyone an extra peek into what i'm really like with 10 facts about me:

1. i did ballet from age 3-19. i don't have time to take class anymore with my busy school schedule, but i will always be a dancer. always. it has become such a huge part of me. i love any style of dance, it's just so much fun! sometimes i just break out with some sick dance moves…randomly.

2. i love chocolate frosting. one time my friend lindsay got me a can of chocolate frosting for my birthday and i ate the whole thing. of course not all in one sitting, but within two days for sure. wanna be my best friend? a can of chocolate frosting is the way to my heart. and reeses. and chocolate mint.

3. i like to be held like a baby. if isaac and i are sitting on the couch, i'll say "hold me like a baby!" and he'll just cradle me. it's so soothing. he's the nicest. i love him.

4. remember how i said that i despise the snow? well yeah…that's about it. i just don't like being cold (but winter isn't half bad when you're in love!).

5. i am deathly afraid of deer. one time i was arm distance from a deer…i about peed myself. those beady eyes give me the heeby jeebys. They just seem like they could attack ya!

6. baseball is my favorite sport. i am a die hard san francisco giants fan, but not just because they're champs! my dad brainwashed us while we were growing up, so i've been a giants fan my whole life.

 7. sometimes when i'm asleep and isaac wakes me up around midnight to go back to my apartment to go to bed, i cry. i can't help it! it's the weirdest thing. i think i am just really tired so i start crying. isaac has multiple videos of me crying after waking up. what a baby!

8. when i was little, i wanted to be a target cashier when i grew up. sadly that has not happened, but it is still my favorite store!

9. i love avocado! turkey, bacon, avocado paninis are my favorite.

10. i cried when hannah montana ended.
p.s. thank you to the wonderfully talented alli for the picture!

every year since i have started school at byu, i've wanted to go to the lighting at the riverwoods in provo. this year, isaac made my dream come true! i was expecting lights hanging on the shops and on the trees, but let me tell ya…it was so much more than that! there was an ice sculpture, a christmas tree made of lights, a santa house, fire pits blazing, music, and lights everywhere i turned! the fireworks show was the best show i have ever seen! utah christmas fireworks are way better than california fourth of july fireworks (time to step up your game california)! it was freezing cold, so luckily i had my love to snuggle with! it was so beautiful and i'm thinking this will be a new christmas tradition.

what are your favorite christmas traditions?

thankful thursday: roses in december

through various connections, i have had the pleasure of coming to know the work of a great utah videographer, alexis harper of december rose film. this girl has got it goin' on!!!! when i first visited her site, i read her "about me" section and found out why she named her videography business "december rose." alexis got the name from this quote…

"god gave us memories so that we could have roses in december."
-j.m. barbie

boom. i was instantly obsessed!

this thankful thursday i am so so so grateful for roses in december

how lucky are we?? we have modern technology to preserve memories through photo and video. these memories are priceless and precious. isn't there a saying "memory fades, take lots of pictures, and record lots and lots and lots of videos"…okay, so that's not really a saying, but it should be!

here are some of my roses in december…

provo's best hot chocolate

pocket of blossoms: provo's best hot chocolate

for friday date night, isaac took me hot chocolate tasting around provo. how cute is that? and he thought of it all on his own! he had a list of places where we were going to stop and share a small hot chocolate. we rated the taste on a scale of 1 to 10, and picked the best place to go get hot chocolate!

we went to: coffee pod, kneaders, cocoa bean, and starbucks. after kneaders, we started getting sick of hot chocolate and a little full, so not all the tastings were hot chocolate but they all had chocolate in them!

1. coffee pod

what we drank: cold chocolate
rating: 6

the coffee pod was a like a cozier starbucks. it had leather couches to lounge on and cute decor. isaac and i got the cold chocolate. the barista mixed cocoa powder and milk with this intense power mixy thingy! then he added a scoop of little balls of ice. it was like a high quality chocolate milk and it tasted pretty good!

2. kneaders

provo, ut

what we drank: european hot chocolate
rating: 9

i just barely tried kneaders famous cinnamon french toast a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it! they also always have bread samples…ten points to kneaders! i'm happy to report that their european hot chocolate is just as good, if not better. it almost had a smoky taste to it and was really rich, but not too rich. there is also a mexican spice hot chocolate, which has more of a cinnamon taste to it, but if you're a chocolate lover…go for the european hot chocolate! mmm, heaven.

3. cocoa bean

what we drank: raspberry white chocolate frappe
rating: 8

so this wasn't hot chocolate but it had chocolate in it and it sure was good! this drink was a raspberry frappe with pockets of smooth white chocolate and topped with white-chocolate-drizzled whipped cream. it was pretty delicious!

4. starbucks

what we drank: peppermint hot chocolate

let's take a moment to admire isaac's confused face in that last picture…okay moving on! starbucks is such a classic and every time i get hot chocolate there i get the peppermint hot chocolate! isaac and i got the kid's size. if you're going to get any flavoring in your hot chocolate, like peppermint, i wouldn't get the kid's size. the peppermint was overpowering in that little cup, but i have had a tall peppermint hot chocolate there and it was divine!

well there ya have it! provo's best hot chocolate: kneaders.
where is your favorite place to get hot chocolate?

thankful thursday: too close for comfort

pocket of blossoms: too close for comfort

(this post is not what i had originally intended to post today. i had a completely different thankful thursday written out, edited, and scheduled. but i'd like to save that post for next week's thankful thursday.i know i posted a serious post about veteran's day on tuesday and i don't mean to be so serious this week, but for me this blog has become very therapeutic and i have to say what's on my mind.)

this is my adorable brother andrew.
he's 13.
he loves basbeball.
he likes to dance with me.
he is always smiling.
everyone who knows him, loves him.
he loves baseball.
he gives the best hugs
and loves to snuggle.
oh, and he loves baseball.

tuesday night i was doing my homework at my apartment while i was waiting for isaac to come over. my screen lit up with a text from my mom…

"at the emergency room with andrew. he was hit in the head with a ball at batting practice. then threw up 2 hours later. just had a ct scan, waiting for the results."

i was in shock. it took me about 5 minutes to process what was actually going on and when i realized what happened, i burst into tears. i heard isaac's knock on the door and walked to the front room…i couldn't even get a "hello" out before i began to sob in his arms. the next text came…

"there is bleeding, they're sending us to the trauma center."

isaac held me while i began to cry uncontrollably. in one single moment, all the things that could go wrong flashed before my eyes. every time i envisioned andrew going through head surgery, i cried a little louder. there was bleeding on his brain and he had suffered a skull fracture. you just never know what could happen with head injuries.

pocket of blossoms: too close for comfort

andrew was admitted to the trauma center, had an mri taken of his head, and was placed under observation for 24 hours. things began to turn around from there. everyone was sure that he was going to have to go through surgery to reduce the bleeding. but the neurosurgeon told my mom that andrew looked good and that surgery was less likely now.

i went to bed around 4 am and woke up at 8 am, with the puffiest eyes i've ever seen, to hear that andrew was not going to be needing surgery. they are keeping him in the hospital for a little longer so they can monitor him, but he's looking great!

somehow i always knew andrew was going to be okay, but fear squashed that knowledge to the ground with the vision of negative possibilities.

pocket of blossoms: too close for comfort

i have a lot to be thankful for this thankful thursday. i'm thankful for...

-my andrew

-andrew's health

-family back home that was able to be there for my mom when i couldn't be

-modern medicine

-the relationship that andrew and i have--it's a fun one!

-andrew's example of optimism--check out that smile! uhhh do you know your brain is bleeding???

and finally for…

-a god in heaven who watches over his children.

my heart is so happy that my baby brother will be okay. if you ask me, that was too close for comfort…am i right or am i right??
