nutcracker 2014

pocket of blossoms: nutcracker

last week isaac and i were on campus studying pretty late one night. isaac got up to go to the bathroom, but had to go to another building because the bathroom in the building we were in was closed for cleaning (or so i thought). when he came back, i was burnt out of studying and wanted to go home. we packed up and started walking home. when we were just outside the doors of the building, he told me that i had to put on a blindfold and that he had a surprise for me. i put on the blindfold and told him that he better not let me fall!

i followed him with my little blindfold on. i walked slowly and in a squatting position, ya know what blindfolded walk i'm talking about?? we ended up inside somewhere and he told me to take off the blindfold. i looked around...we were in the very classroom where we met

there was a little christmas tree and a present with a note on the counter. i opened the present first (because he told me to, i usually open the card first!) and it was the curliest, blondest clara nutcracker doll. i knew what was coming next. i opened the card and found two tickets to see the ballet west nutcracker in salt lake city.

i admit it...i cried. ballet was such a huge part of my life growing up and i haven't had the time to take class with my busy school schedule. i loved going to the nutcracker with my mom when i lived at home, but i always get home for christmas break after her and my sister have already gone.

so i cried because i haven't been in or seen the nutcracker in a really long time, and it meant a lot to me that isaac thought to take me. his very first ballet! what a guy.

i smacked the bow on him and he loved it...

fast forward to this past saturday! we got all dressed up, went to dinner, and then drove into salt lake. salt lake was a nightmare. there were cars and people everywhere. it took ten minutes to get from stoplight to stoplight. the parking garage where we wanted to park was full, so we had to go a couple blocks further from where we wanted to be. we were pretty far from the theatre by the time we parked and the show started in five minutes.

we started walking towards the theatre but we were walking so slow because i was wearing heels. shame on me. i never even wear heels! but i was trying to be fancy! finally, i just took off my heels and we started running through downtown salt lake like a bunch of crazies. after awhile, we knew we had ended up in the general vicinity of the theatre but we weren't sure which way to go.

we spotted a bike cab driver and asked him if he could take us to the theatre. we hopped on and off we went. the bike even had mission impossible music playing, which was so fitting. isaac and i were laughing our heads off. it was quite the adventure.

i didn't even dare to look at the bottom of my feet...

we made it to the theatre and took our seats just as the curtain was rising. mission accomplished.

it was a great show and it brought back so many memories. just hearing the music makes me teary-eyed. isaac kept leaning over to me and asking "are they good? was that good?" it was fun to be with him at his first ballet and i thought it was really sweet that he would be willing to take me!

we got tired of asking people to take our picture so we decided on the selfie. even though people were stopping and asking if we wanted them to take it haha!

we ended our night walking around temple square and looking at the lights. we must've witnessed about seven proposals. everywhere we turned crowds were cheering, all gathered around a couple, guy on his knee and girl in complete shock. hooray for love!

isaac and i love salt lake. secretly, we wish we could live in downtown. it is a beautiful city. and the perfect place to spend a perfect date night with my favorite guy.

  5. This is so adorable. I love salt lake, it always gets me into the Christmas Spirit. My husband and I are trying to decide on the day to go. I keep hearing that it's SOOO busy this year. We're thinking to beat the crowds by going on a weekday (probably not Monday though cause that's FHE).
