City Creek and the Nordstrom Cafe

city creek

Last weekend, I was hired for a shoot up in the SLC area, so Isaac and I thought we could make a date night out of it. I have been dying to go to Sixth and Pine in the City Creek Nordstrom because I love the one in my hometown Nordstrom. The cilantro lime chicken salad is my favorite, so I had to order it! Anyone else plan on trying something new and then just end up ordering your usual? Isaac got the turkey avocado sandwhich with sweet potato fries. THOSE FRIES. YOU MUST TRY THEM. They were so good, and we loved the dip they came with! Plus, Nordstrom's restaurants always give you a chocolate mint after your meal, and those are just a whole other category of yumminess.

Recently, I've been kinda digging the length my hair is at. It's easier to manage and I don't think it looks too bad! How do you feel about it? Should I grow it out long again or keep it this length?

After dinner, we walked around and window shopped. Isaac took me inside Anthrolopologie and J.Crew by his own free will! I was one happy camper. Isaac even picked up the famous monogram Anthro mug with an "R" and suggested that we buy it. I obviously couldn't object to that! I was in heaven.

I sure do love my forever friday night date night.

It's a Beautiful Thing

CA wedding photos

This past Sunday was a rough one for me. I went to church and had a great lesson in Sunday School, but instead of feeling inspired and uplifted, it left me feeling very down on myself. It wasn't the teacher's fault at all. I just became very harsh with myself. I thought about the person I want to be and the things I want to do to become that person. In that moment, I felt like a complete failure.

After church, Isaac and I were snuggling on the couch and I just burst into tears. I let everything out. I told him how I want to be a better student...more studious, more attentive, more diligent. How I want to be a better friend...more thoughtful, more effort, more understanding. I told him how I want to be a better wife...more patient, more kind, more giving. How I want to be a better daughter of God...more obedient, more grateful, more aware of all that He has given me. I want to be all of these things.

I felt completely hopeless and defeated. I thought...

our apartment is never spotless,
I'm not as emotionally invested in learning as I wish I could be,
gossip is a weakness for me,
and so on.

Isaac hadn't said anything at this point, but I knew he had to leave soon to go visit a family he was in charge of teaching. He just said, "Have you heard President Uchtdorf's talk about the forget-me-not? You should read it, and when I come back, we'll talk about it." He left to go visit the family and I laid in our bed with my laptop watching the talk. President Uchtdorf started out by telling a story about the forget-me-not flower, and how he was going to teach five things to not ever forget, representing the five petals of the flower.

Right away he said, "Forget not to be patient with yourself. I want to tell you something that I hope you will take the right way: God is fully aware that you and I are not perfect."

BOOM.

Tears streamed down my face. At a time where I felt so inadequate, I was reminded of my Heavenly Father's love and awareness for me. There are so many things that resonated with me in that talk, and things that Isaac told me that brought me peace. However, I wish to keep those private and challenge whoever is reading this blog post to watch "Forget Me Not" by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, a representative and witness of Jesus Christ.

How grateful I am for Sundays. I truly cherish the time that I have to attend church, relax, and reflect. I know that what President Uchtdorf said is true. Our Heavenly Father IS aware of us, and we can see this through daily tender mercies. I know that He sent a Savior to suffer in the garden for our sins. Because of that, we have the chance to reflect and change. We can change and be the person we dream to be. In Philippians 4:13 it reads, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." He will help us change, maybe not all at once, but He will change us, if we ask for His guidance and help. This knowledge makes me feel extremely optimistic.

BYU Homecoming + Pumpkin Carving with Nerds

Homecoming

(Does it look like I have an ombre in this photo? Because I don't....) Last weekend, Isaac and I participated in a couple BYU Homecoming activities! We went to the formal dance and the game! High school Kiely would have drooled if ^^^that hot guy asked her to homecoming. AND SO DOES COLLEGE KIELY. It was so fun!

We requested the DJ to play "Watch Me" and Isaac and I choreographed our "whips" and " nae naes" to go opposite ways standing in a line. It was sick. When we looked around, literally NO ONE knew how to whip. How does that even happen?!

On Wednesday night, Isaac took me to an Accounting club pumpkin carving event. That is the "pumpkin carving with nerds" part of this blog post title! The nerds were super nice! They served yummy pie and everyone talked about accounting stuff. Isn't our pumpkin so cute?

SIDE NOTE: I'm thinking of starting to vlog....I love making videos so I think that I would love it. But I have NO idea what I would vlog about...

Comment below if you have any suggestions!

Utah Fashion Photography: Whit from Beauty and a Budget

Ever since I was twelve years old, I have loved taking pictures. I tried to pretend I was a fashion blogger for a little bit with this blog, but I am so not! I felt so silly in front of the camera! I am so much more comfortable behind the camera. The reason I am saying this is because I might be posting my own "photography" here and there.

That being said, I got to take pictures for Whit from Beauty and a Budget and I had so much fun! Here are some of my favorites from the shoot (go to her blog link ^^^ for outfit/vendor details)!

Mr. & Mrs.

Pocket of Blossoms

I saw a quote the other day on Pinterest. It said, "Very little is needed to make a happy life." SO TRUE. Honestly, I never really thought that before I met Isaac. But, the past month has been filled with "very little." We go to school/work all day long and see each other at right when we wake up and at 9 PM for about an hour and a half before we go to sleep. Let's just say that I live for the weekends! Even though I don't get to see him for very long every day, you should see my smile when he walks in that door every night! He usually tackles me. I squeal. He smooches my face. I confess that I tried to wait for him to eat dinner, but I was a wimp and couldn't wait any longer. He eats dinner. We have our nightly fruit popsicle. Usually goes something like that.

Last weekend was general conference in my church! That weekend felt like it lasted a whole week...IT WAS THE BEST. Sunday we slept in and then got up to watch the first session of the day. We poured some milk, warmed up cinnamon rolls, snuggled, and listened to the inspiring speakers (THIS speech about women was my FAVORITE!). After the session, we went on a walk around campus and snuggled up under some trees. I couldn't help but think about how much I love being my Mr.'s Mrs. We have "very little" money, time, possessions, etc., but it sure is a very very happy life!

Alpine Loop

Alpine Loop | www.pocketofblossoms.com

Ever since I came to BYU, I've heard all about this "Alpine Loop." I saw lots of pictures of beautiful mountains covered in yellow, so it was definitely on my Utah bucket list (just like the Lavell Edwards stadium farmer's market was)! Hmmm maybe I should make an official Utah bucket list....does anyone have suggestions for my bucket list?

Anyway, the drive lived up to every expectation! If you follow me on instagram, then you know that I cannot stop posting pictures of our drive! It was breathtaking. We drove around the loop with the windows down, the sunroof open, and Isaac yelling "I love nature!!!!" every 20 minutes.

I attempted standing on this log...it didn't go so well.

I had never seen an aspen tree, so I was pumped!

We now have our initials carved on two trees in different places, which I think is pretty cool! When we were with my family at the Sunriver Resort on vacation, Isaac and I snuck away for a bike ride and he smuggled a pocket knife so that we could carve our initials on the tree. I was so shocked haha!  And now we have our initials on a tree in the Alpine Loop!

Isaac and I joked that our "family pictures" were taken care of for the year because we took so many! How could we not?! The yellow is stunning!
